Michael Botto
opened his first commercial workshop in 1986. Five years later he
saw the need for a mobile machining operation and purchased the
first on-site unit. Business increased steadily with two more units
added quickly followed by a lathe and milling machine to produce
tooling for the on-site machines. When customers realised he had
workshop facilities, the work flowed in at a constant rate. In just
two years, the new workshop was employing twelve full-time employees
running two shifts.
Looking to the future, Austbore has employed six apprentices to
help ensure a healthy number of tradespeople not only for itself,
but for the industrial community in general.
The company now has six mobile machining rigs which are fully occupied
refurbishing machinery on site and a permanent workforce of 35 tradesmen
at the company's newly extended and fully equipped premises at Paget,
Mackay. The extensions include a totally new shed which houses all
the horizontal, floor-boring and in-house line-boring equipment.
